GREEK Shows : I Really Missed Them

Five-Shows-Watch-You-Love-Greek

It's with a little tear in my eye. The ABC Family show has become more than just a guilty pleasure over the past few years, but luckily there are a few other shows out there that can give me a fix of the college hijinks and drama. If you're in the same boat as me, here are five other series that just may strike your fancy if you're a fan of Greek.

1.Community

OK, so the cast of NBC's comedy aren't all typical college age, but Community will give you another type of undergrad experience. It's got more misfits than popular girls and guys (think Rusty and Dale), but just as many timely pop culture references as Greek used on a regular basis.

Community

2. Felicity

If spending the last few years watching Casey waffle between Evan and Cappie was the reason you were glued to Greek, then you'll be equally hooked on the DVDs of Felicity. Sure, it's a little dated at this point, but the iconic show offers up the same themes (and an equally hot love triangle at its epicenter).

Felicity

3. Hellcats

If you can't have Zeta Beta Zeta, there's always Cheer town. Hellcats offers a clique that's just as melodramatic and soapy as the Cyprus Rhodes kids — but with dancing.

Hellcats

4. Pretty Little Liars

The PYTs of Pretty Little Liars are more or less sorority girls in training. The show is definitely darker than Greek, but it has the same addictive story lines.

Pretty-Little-Liars

5. Undeclared

Judd Apatow's short-lived series Undeclared features plenty of stars before they were stars (Seth Rogen, Jay Baruchel, Jason Segel) exploring college life. Like Greek, it captures the college basics: partying, hooking up, and trying to prepare yourself for the big bad world.

Undeclared

++ 10 things I hate about you

It is a company, while Android os kicks WIN mobile in the teeth, &, a division of the begin mobile promotion if a viable company because it can not anticipate Look for engines shops Gettig in looking program in all locations and from any phone. One of them is the Look for engines industry where a large number of programs for mobile operating the os Android os than T-Mobile G1 and the myTouch T-Mobile with Look for engines. In inclusion to details, Look for engines has many areas that prior to any serious threat to address, as a substitute for a weight offering songs Android os iTunes intelligent phone battle. However, since the reach of Look for engines Android os as a totally free open-source os that reduces the value of acquisitions Hand Goal. I've never used an Android os phone, and I have heard bad factors about it, like Look for engines uses the details for promotion, but I think it's a step towards a universal foundation for open-source intelligent phone.

The concept that Look for engines will encounter the same phenomenon in the shop request U.S. dollars ridiculous. The iPhone uses a lot of Look for engines programs and examine in Look for engines there is no distinction in their pursuit of your surfing habits. Apple company generally skimming the high-margin clients with valuable, Blackberry mobile phones is still very well-known in the society (and blackberry sell more servers, the actual interest) and Android os, will take over the rest of the intelligent phone industry at $49 - remember that Look for engines gets nothing for all marketed Android os now and Apple company earns $200 - $300 for each iPhone marketed without iTunes... that's the distinction.

Top 10 Bizarre Disasters

Through history, there have been some dreadful disasters leading to enormous numbers of deaths. There have also been a number of disasters that were just outright weird. This is a list of those ten most bizarre distasters.

1. The St. Pierre Snake Invasion

Volcanic activity on the ‘bald mountain’ towering over St Pierre, Martinique, was usually so inconsequential that no one took seriously the fresh steaming vent-holes and earth tremors during April, 1902. By early May, however, ash began to rain down continuously, and the nauseating stench of sulphur filled the air. Their homes on the mountainside made uninhabitable, more than 100 fer-de-lance snakes slithered down and invaded the mulatto quarter of St Pierre. The 6-ft long serpents killed 50 people and innumerable animals before they were finally destroyed by the town’s giant street cats. But the annihilation had only begun. On May 5, a landslide of boiling mud spilled into the sea, followed by a tsunami that killed hundreds and, three days later, May 8, Mt Pelee finally exploded, sending a murderous avalanche of white-hot lava straight toward the town. Within three minutes St Pierre was completely obliterated. Of its 30,000 population, there were only two survivors.

2. The Shiloh Baptist Church Panic

Two thousand people, mostly black, jammed into the Shiloh Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama, on September 19, 1902, to hear an address by Booker T. Washington. The brick church was new. A steep flight of stairs, enclosed in brick, led from the entrance doors to the church proper. After Washington’s speech, there was an altercation over an unoccupied seat, and the word ‘fight’ was misunderstood as ‘fire’. The congregation rose as if on cue and stampeded for the stairs. Those who reached them first were pushed from behind and fell. Others fell on top of them until the entrance was completely blocked by a pile of screaming humanity 10 ft high. Efforts by Washington and the churchmen down in the front to induce calm were fruitless, and they stood by helplessly while their brothers and sisters, mostly the latter, were trampled or suffocated to death. There was neither fire – nor even a real fight – but 115 people died.

3. The Great Boston Molasses Flood

On January 15, 1919, the workers and residents of Boston’s North End, mostly Irish and Italian, were out enjoying the noontime sun of an unseasonably warm day. Suddenly, with only a low rumble of warning, the huge cast-iron tank of the Purity Distilling Company burst open and a great wave of raw black molasses, two storeys high, poured down Commercial Street and oozed into the adjacent waterfront area. Neither pedestrians nor horse-drawn wagons could outrun it. Two million gallons of molasses, originally destined for rum, engulfed scores of people – 21 men, women and children died of drowning or suffocation, while another 150 were injured. Buildings crumbled, and an elevated train track collapsed. Those horses not completely swallowed up were so trapped in the goo they had to be shot by the police. Sightseers who came to see the chaos couldn’t help but walk in the molasses. On their way home they spread the sticky substance throughout the city. Boston smelled of molasses for a week, and the harbour ran brown until summer.

4. The Pittsburg Gasometer Explosion

A huge cylindrical gasometer – the largest in the world at that time – located in the heart of the industrial centre of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, developed a leak. On the morning of November 14, 1927, repairmen set out to look for it – with an open-flame blowlamp. At about 10 o’clock they apparently found the leak. The tank, containing 5 million cu. ft of natural gas, rose in the air like a balloon and exploded. Chunks of metal, some weighing more than 100 lbs, were scattered great distances, and the combined effects of air pressure and fire left a square mile of devastation. Twenty-eight people were killed and hundreds were injured.

5. The Gillingham Fire Demonstration

Every year the firemen of Gillingham, in Kent, England, would construct a makeshift ‘house’ out of wood and canvas for the popular fire-fighting demonstration at the annual Gillingham Park fête. Every year, too, a few local boys were selected from many aspirants to take part in the charade. On July 11, 1929, nine boys – aged 10 to 14 – and six firemen costumed as if for a wedding party, climbed to the third floor of the ‘house’. The plan was to light a smoke fire on the first floor, rescue the ‘wedding party’ with ropes and ladders, and then set the empty house ablaze to demonstrate the use of the fire hoses. By some error, the real fire was lit first. The spectators, assuming the bodies they saw burning were dummies, cheered and clapped, while the firemen outside directed streams of water on what they knew to be a real catastrophe. All 15 people inside the house died.

6. The Empire State Building Crash

On Saturday morning, July 28, 1945, a veteran Army pilot took off in a B-25 light bomber from Bedford, Massachusetts, headed for Newark, New Jersey, the co-pilot and a young sailor hitching a ride were also aboard. Fog made visibility poor. About an hour later, people on the streets of midtown Manhattan became aware of the rapidly increasing roar of a plane and watched with horror as a bomber suddenly appeared out of the clouds, dodged between skyscrapers, and then plunged into the side of the Empire State Building. Pieces of plane and building fell like hail. A gaping hole was gouged in the 78th floor, one of the plane’s two engines hurtled through seven walls and came out the opposite side of the building, and the other engine shot through an elevator shaft, severing the cables and sending the car plummeting to the basement. When the plane’s fuel tank exploded, six floors were engulfed in flame, and burning gasoline streamed down the sides of the building. Fortunately, few offices were open on a Saturday, and only 11 people – plus the three occupants of the plane – died.

7. The Tunguska Event

On June 30, 1908, a huge explosion occurred near the Podkamennaya (Under Rock) Tunguska River in what is now Krasnoyarsk Krai of Russia. The airburst was most likely caused by a meteor or comet fragment about 20m (60ft) across. Although the meteor or comet is considered to have burst prior to hitting the surface, this event is still referred to as an impact event. The energy of the blast was estimated to be between 10 and 20 megatons of TNT, 1,000 times more powerful than the bomb dropped on Hiroshima, or equivalent to Castle Bravo, the most powerful nuclear bomb ever detonated by the US.

The Tunguska explosion felled an estimated 80 million trees over 2,150 square kilometers (830 sq mi). The devastation is still visible today in satellite images of the area.

8. The Texas City Chain Reaction Explosions

On April 15, 1947, the French freighter Grandcamp docked at Texas City, Texas, and took on some 1,400 tons of ammonium nitrate fertiliser. That night a fire broke out in the hold of the ship. By dawn, thick black smoke had port authorities worried because the Monsanto chemical plant was only 700 ft away. As men stood on the dock watching, tugboats prepared to tow the freighter out to sea. Suddenly a ball of fire enveloped the ship. For many it was the last thing they ever saw. A great wall of flame radiated outward from the wreckage, and within minutes the Monsanto plant exploded, killing and maiming hundreds of workers and any spectators who had survived the initial blast. Most of the business district was devastated, and fires raged along the waterfront, where huge tanks of butane gas stood imperilled. Shortly after midnight, a second freighter – also carrying nitrates – exploded, and the whole sequence began again. More than 500 people died, and another 1,000 were badly injured.

9. The Basra Mass Poisoning

In September 1971 a shipment of 90,000 metric tons of seed grain arrived in the Iraqi port of Basra. The American barley and Mexican wheat – which had been chemically treated with methyl-mercury to prevent rot – were sprayed a bright pink to indicate their lethal coating, and clear warnings were printed on the bags – but only in English and Spanish. Before they could be distributed to the farmers, the bags were stolen from the docks, and the grain was sold as food to the starving populace. The Iraqi government, embarrassed at its criminal negligence or for other reasons, hushed up the story, and it was not until two years later that an American newsman came up with evidence that 6,530 hospital cases of mercury poisoning were attributable to the unsavoury affair. Officials would admit to only 459 deaths, but total fatalities were probably more like 6,000, with another 100,000 suffering such permanent effects as blindness, deafness and brain damage.

10. The Chandka Forest Elephant Stampede

In the spring of 1972, the Chandka Forest area in India – already suffering from drought – was hit by a searing heat wave as well. The local elephants, who normally were no problem, became so crazed by the high temperatures and lack of water that the villagers told authorities they were afraid to venture out and to farm their land. By summer the situation had worsened. On July 10, the elephant herds went berserk and stampeded through five villages, leaving general devastation and 24 deaths in their wake.

Top 15 Bizarre True Stories

This list was compiled by the co-editor of the Fortean Times, a Journal of Strange Phenomena, a monthly British magazine.

1. Bees who pay their respects

Margaret Bell, who kept bees in Leintwardine, about 7 miles from her home in Ludlow, Shropshire (England), died in June 1994. Soon after her funeral, mourners were amazed to see hundreds of bees settle on the corner of the street opposite the house where she had lived for 26 years. The bees stayed for an hour before buzzing off over the rooftops. The local press ran a photograph of the bees hanging on the wall in a cluster.

2. Phantom Car Crash

On December 11, 2002, two motorists called police to report seeing a car veering off the A3 trunk road with headlights blazing at Burpham in Surrey. A thorough search uncovered a car concealed in dense undergrowth and the long-dead driver nearby. It turned out that the crash had actually happened five months earlier when the driver, Christopher Chandler, had been reported missing by his brother.

3. Enigmatic Earth Divot

Am irregular shaped hole, about 10ft by 7ft with 2ft vertical sides, was found on a remote farm near Grand Coulee, Washington State, in October 1984. It had not been there a month earlier. ‘Dribblings’ of earth and stones led to a three-ton grass-covered earth divot 75 ft away. It was almost as if the divot had been removed with a gigantic cookie cutter, except that roots dangled intact from the vertical side of both hold and slab. There were no clues such as vehicle tracks and an earthquake was thought very unlikely.

4. Balloon Buddies

Laura Buxton released a helium filled balloon during celebrations for her grandparents’ gold wedding anniversary in Blurton, Staffordshire, in June 2001. Attached to the balloon was her name and address and a note asking the finder to write back. Ten days later she received a reply. The balloon had been found by another Laura Buxton in the garden hedge of her home in Pewsey, Wiltshire, 140 miles away. Both Lauras were ages 10 and both had three year old black Labradors, a guinea pig, and a rabbit.

5. Hum Misty for Me

A noise a bit like amplifier feedback had been heard for three years coming from the right ear of a Welsh pony called Misty, according to the Vetinary Record (April 1995). It varied in intensity but stayed at a constant pitch of 7 kHz. Hearing a buzzing in one’s ears is called Subjective Tinnitus; much rarer is when others can also hear the noise. This is called Objective Tinnitus and the cause is still largely a matter of debate.

6. Whirlwind Children

A nine-year old Chinese girl was playing in Songjian near Shanghai, in July 1992 when she was carried off by a whirlwind and deposited unhurt in a treetop almost two miles away. According to a wire report from May 1986, a freak wind lifted up 13 children in the oasis of Hami in Western China and deposited them unharmed in sand dunes and scrub 12 miles away.

7. Riverside Mystery

Gloria Ramirez, 31, died of Kidney failure at Riverside General Hospital, California, in February 1994, after being rushed there with chest pains. Emergency room staff were felled by ‘fumes’ when a blood sample was taken. A strange oily sheen on the woman’s skin and unexplained white crystals in her blood were reported. A doctor suffered liver and lung damage, and bone necrosis. At least 23 other people were affected. One hypothesis was that Ramirez, who had had cervical cancer, had taken a cocktail of medicines that combined to make an insecticide (organophospate) but tests yielded no clue.

8. Boulders in Trees

In April 1997, a turkey hunter in Yellowwood State Forest, Indiana, came upon a huge sandstone boulder wedged between three branches of an oak tree about 35 feet from the ground. The arrow shaped rock was estimated to weight 500lb. Subsequently, four more large boulders were found wedged high up in trees elsewhere in the forest. All were in remote areas. None of the trees were damaged and there were no signs of heavy equipment begin used or of tornado damage and no one recalled any mishaps involving dynamite anywhere nearby.

9. Helpful Voices

While on holiday a woman, referred to by the British Medical Journal (1997) as AB, heard two voices in her head telling her to return home immediately. Back in London the voices gave her an address that turned out to be a hospital’s brain scan department. The voices told her to ask for a scan as she had a brain tumour and her brain stem was inflamed. Though she had no symptoms, a scan was eventually arranged and she did indeed have a tumour. After an operation, AB heard the voices again: ‘We are pleased to have helped you,’ they said ‘Good-bye.’ AB made a full recovery.

10. La Mancha Negro

A Hazard unique to Venezuelan highways is a slippery goo called La Mancha Negra (the black stain), although it is more of a sludge with the consistency of chewing gum. Although the government has spent millions of dollars in research, no one knows what the goo is and where it comes from, or how to get rid of it. It first appeared in 1987 on the road from Caracas to the airport, covering 50 yards, and spread inexorably every year. By 1992 it was a major road hazard all around the capital and it was claimed 1,800 motorists had died after losing control. The problem remains to this day.

11. Postcard Farewell

When Jim Wilson’s father died in Natal, South Africa, in April 1967, both Jim, living in England, and his sister Muriel, living in Holland, were informed. Muriel contacted her husband who was on business in Portugal, and he flew to South Africa right away. Changing planes at Las Palmas airport in the Canary Islands, he bought a postcard showing holidaymakers on Margate Beach, Natal, and sent it to Muriel. It was she who noticed that the photograph showed her father walking up the beach.

12. Notecase from the Sky

In October 1975 Mrs Lynn Connolly was hanging washing in her garden in the Quadrant, Hull, when she felt a sharp tap on the top of her head. It was caused by a small silver notecase, 63mm by 36.5mm, hinged, containing a used notepad with 13 sheets left. It was marked with the initials ‘SE’, ‘C8′, ‘TB’ (or ‘JB’) and ‘Klaipea’, a Lithuanian seaport. No one claimed it at the police station, so it was returned to Mrs Connolly. It seems likely it fell only a short distance but from where? If it had dropped from a plane, it would have given her more than a tap.

13. Fiery Persecution

The village of Canneto di Caronia on Sicily’s north coast has been plagued by mysterious fires. The trouble began on January 20, 2004, when a TV caught fire. Then things in neighbourhood houses began to burn, including washing machines, mobile phones, mattresses, chairs and even the insulation on water pipes. The electricity company cut off all power, as did the railway company, but the fires continued. Experts of all kinds carried out tests, but no explanation was found. The village was evacuated in February, but when people returned in March the fires resumed. Police ruled out a pyromaniac after they saw wires bursting into flames.

14. Bovine Enigma

On June 28, 2002, in the middle of a spate of unexplained cattle mutilations in Argentina, something macabre was found in a field near suco, west of Rio Cuarto in San Luis province. Nineteen cows were stuffed into a sheet metal water tank, closed with a conical cap. Nine were drowned, the rest barely alive, having endured freezing temperatures, not to mention the shock of their lives.

15. Boy Turns into a Yam

Three pupils of the Evangelist Primary School in the northern Nigerian town of Maiduguri rushed into the headmistresses office in March 2000 and said that a fellow pupil had been transformed into a yam after accepting a sweet from a stranger. The headmistress found the root tuber and took it to the police station for safe-keeping. Following local radio reports, hundreds of people flocked to see the yam and police were hunting for the sweet-giver. What happened next failed to reach the media.

How to Maintain a Water-Cool System

You can now buy all the parts you need for water cooling off the shelf, and with a little research on the various fittings and tubing sizes, it’s easy to get your system up and running. However, there are some tricks to avoid the pitfalls that aren’t mentioned in manuals, such as preventing foreign objects from getting stuck in your waterblocks. It’s also good to clean your loop periodically to remove built-up grime.

Follow these steps and you’ll end up with a perfectly prepped and tuned cooling system, and avoid the nightmare of coolant leaks too.

1 Cut your tubing properly! don’t use a knife or scissors to cut your tubing, as the edges will probably be uneven, meaning there’s an increased risk of leaks, especially if it’s under sideways stress. A tube cutter will make cutting your tubing far easier, as well as more precise. They cost around RM15 but will make your life considerably easier
2 Flush Your Radiator/ Many radiators use water-soluble flux in their construction. This can gradually dissolve, and make your coolant and tubing turn cloudy as it spreads. To remove this, run a hot tap and flush the radiator for ten minutes with hot water. You may even see the water turn cloudy.
3 Rinse with deionized water. As tap water contains nasty impurities that can lurk in your system, you need to flush your radiator immediately after step one. You can buy deionized water from Hardware retails/store cheaply, rather than using expensive pre-mixed coolant. For the best results, connect the radiator to a pump and pass the coolant through it at high pressure.
4 Check waterblock for obstructions. Waterblock contain a maze of copper fins and small path through which your coolant will flow. Anything that blocks these could limit your block’s ability to cool your CPU. Dismantle it to check nothing has found its way inside during its construction. Start by removing any securing screws and taking the block apart.
5 Assemble waterblock. Remove any small pieces of seal or other detritus stuck in the waterblock with water or tweezers. If your block uses a removable rubber seal, make sure this is correctly placed in its groove. You can then screw the block back together and fill it full of coolant – this will show if the rubber seal has come loose.
6 Filtration. By adding a small section of sponge to your reservoir, you can prevent small fragments from radiators or waterblocks from becoming lodged in your pump or waterblock. Start by cutting a section of sponge to the right size for your reservoir. Rinse this thoroughly to remove any loose fragments and then insert it.
7 Add A Filter. Make sure the filter isn’t located directly over an inlet or outlet, although the coolant should flow through it before it exits. The filter will help to trap particles that could otherwise get lodged in the pump or waterblock. Alternatively, in-line filters are available that connect two sections of tubing, although these cost around RM30 each.
8 Filling. People often have trouble with trapped aor pr filling new water-cooled builds, particularly in small PCs where gravity can’t ensure the water reaches the pump from the reservoir. You can let gravity fo its work by tilting your case. This may result in a long process of filling, tilting and powering on the pump, but it works
9 Bleeding. Once your loops has enough water, the pump will engage and water will blast around the system. However, air can still trapped in radiators. As air rises in water, it will most likely be trapped at the top, so it’s time for some more tilting to release the air. While you do this, fill the reservoir so that more air isn’t introduced into the system.
10 Top Up. There still may some residual air in the form of tiny air bubbles. These can make the pump quite noisy, but they eventually dissipate. For this reason, check your reservoir level regularly for this first day or two. If air bubbles are stuck in the tubing, a gentle shake can break them free so they find their way to the reservoir
11 LEAK-TEST. By far the most important job before you poweron your water-cooled system to leak-test it. This can only be achieve once you’ve installed all you components into the case with the pump running. Start by disconnecting all the power connectors, except your pump, so your components won’t be damage if there is a leak.
12 Insert ATX JUMPER. An ATX jumper costs just couple of quid, but it handily jumps your PSU’s power and ground pins, facing it to power on without a PC connection. This allows you to just switch on the pump to identify leaks under normal conditions, but without powering on the rest of the PC. Switch off your PSU and insert the connector.
13 Add tissues and dye. While some leaks are obvious, slow leaks can appear after several hours. To spot them, wrap tissues around each fitting, and beneath your CPU block and pump, using tape if necessary. Add deionised water and a few drops of dye to your reservoir or fill-port, then power on the system. If there are any leaks, the tissues will soak up the dye.
14 Leave for 24 Hours. Leak-test for 24 hours, and leave the tissues on once you power up the rest of your system. Slow leaks can still manifest themselve once the system warms up, but the tissues will help to identify them, while helping to prevent the coolant from reaching unintended places. Leave the tissues on for a few days, checking them every day.
15 Persistent leaks. Some barbs and waterblocks just don’t fit together, but you can use mole grips on metal fittings (not plastic) to tighten them with only a small amount of pressure. Alternatively, you can wrap PTFE tape round the thread, or even use Loctite. Don’t use Loctite on plastic reservoirs, though, as it expands and can crack the casing.
16 Cleaning. Over time, coolant can break down and small amounts of material from waterblocks, reservoirs and tubing can get in, building up in bottlenecks or settling in tubing. Thankfully, you can clean your loop without taking it apart. Start by draining your system and opening up two ends at easily accessible points for draining and filling.
17 Flush the loop. Now flush the loop once with deionised water, which will clear out any remaining gunge. If your pump has multiple inlets, keep one open but attach a funnel to fill it, and attach the previous tubing as a drainer. As the coolant is likely to be dirty, empty it into a bucket, rather than onto your patio.
18 Mix your cleaner. We’re using Alphacool Sysclean, which needs to be mixed with ten parts water (one part Sysclean), or five parts if your system hasn’t beem cleaned for years. It’s safe to use with rubber seals, plastic and other metals, but it can attack the coating of nickelplated waterblokcs. For these, use white vinegar mixed with two parts water instead.
19 Add the cleaner to the system. Reconnect the drain hose to your pump and add the cleaner, cleaning up any spills quickly. FIll your system and bleed it, topping up with more water of necessary. The water may turn cloudy, due to oxidation, limescale, additive and other settlements being dissolved. Leave this in your system for 30minutes with the pump on.
20 Drain and Flush the system. You now need to flush deionised water through your system, so get your funnel and find a way to leave the drain house in the bucket while you fill it. Engage the pump and allow 4-5 litres to be flushed through, then add corrosion inhibitor, if your coolant doesn’t contain it already, which prevents any residual cleaner from causing issues.
21 Manual Tube-Cleaning. Sometimes you might need to get physical to deal with blockages or large grime build-ups. Some tubing goes cloudy over time and, while it’s fairly cheap to replace it’s worth trying to clean it first. You can do this with bathroom cleaner, white vinegar or Alphacool Sysclean, and the run a cloth or tube brush through the tube.
22 Cleaning waterblocks and radiators. There may be clumps of matter stuck in your waterblocks’ contact plate fins, which can be removed with a toothbrush, air duster and Alphacool Sysclean. Meanwhile, you can clean radiators by leaving them filled with a more concentrated solution of Sysclean, or white vinegar and hot water, then flushing this through a few times.
