Top 10 International Martial Arts
Martial arts are systems of codified practices and traditions of training for combat. They may be studied for various reasons including combat skills, fitness, self-defense, sport, self-cultivation/meditation, mental discipline, character development and building self-confidence, or any combination of the above. This is a list of the top 10 international Martial Arts. In no particular order:
1. Karate
[Wikipedia]
Meaning “Empty hand” in Japanese, Karate is one of the more popular martial arts. Originated centuries ago from the island of Okinawa, it did not catch on in mainland Japan until the early 1900s, when Master Gichin Funakoshi simplified the self-defense techniques and added a philosophical aspect to the art. There are many different styles within Karate, but they are all characterized with the same hard blocks, punches, and kicks. Today, it is practised and studied in countries all over the world.
2. Tae Kwon Do
Although in the Korean language it can be loosely translated as “The way of hand and foot”, Tae Kwon Do is distinguished more by its powerful kicks than hand strikes. Practitioners believe that since the legs are longer and generally stronger than the arms, it is the best weapon a martial artist has. Tae kwon do as a sport and exercise is popular with people of both sexes and of many ages. Thanks to the millions of students worldwide, it is now an Olympic sport.
3. Judo
Judo, meaning “gentle way”, is a modern martial art that originated from late nineteenth century Japan. The art was founded by Jigoro Kano, who as a youth was often picked on and bullied. After an unsatisfactory experience with Jujutsu, he developed a system with sweeps and throws which made size and strength irrelevant. Just like Tae kwon do, today it is an Olympic sport, where the main goal in a Judo competition is to throw one’s opponent to the ground or make him submit through a joint lock or choke-hold. The balance between standing and ground fighting makes Judo a popular choice for many martial artists.
4. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
Well-known to the Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighters around the world is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (also called Gracie Jiu-Jitsu), which focuses on grappling and ground-fighting techniques. Borrowing from Japanese Judo, the system was developed by the Gracie family throughout the early 20th century and has been going strong ever since.
5. Kung Fu (Wushu)
The term “Kung Fu” does not technically mean Chinese martial arts, but rather “skill or ability to do something”. A more accurate name would be “Wushu”, which is the modern name for the Chinese martial arts. It is believed that thousands of years ago the Buddhist monk Bodhidharma created the art to help his students concentrate during meditation. There are literally hundreds of styles of Kung Fu / Wushu that still exist today, some of the more famous ones being Shaolin, Wing Chun, and Tai Chi.
6. Capoeira
This art comes not from Asia, but again from Brazil. Capoeira was created in the 19th century by African slaves, who had to disguise the martial art as a dance. Music provided by drums and other instruments help to set a rhythm for the game, which consists of two participants using acrobatic play as well as kicks, sweeps and head butts. The technique and strategy are key elements to a well-played game.
7. Arnis / Escrima / Kali
The Filipino Martial Arts called Arnis / Escrima / Kali are known for their weapons, which include rattan sticks, knives, and swords. Fighters in the very effective fighting styles use intricate footwork, stances, blocking and disarms to take out opponents.
8. Muay Thai [Wikipedia]
As the national sport of Thailand, Muay Thai is what baseball is to the United States. This form of kickboxing is different (some say more brutal) than Western kickboxing because fighters are allowed to use fists, feet, shins, knees, and elbows in their strikes. The sport has gained worldwide attention and today there are schools all over the world.
9. Krav Maga
This combat system was developed in Israel and has been adopted by military units and police forces around the world for its effectiveness. The martial art is not a sport and has no competitions, but has a specific focus on self-defense in a “real-life” application. Students are taught to ignore distractions and inflict maximum damage in close quarters, making Krav Maga very effective.
10. Jeet Kune Do
Developed by the famous martial artist and actor Bruce Lee, Jeet Kune Do literally means “Way of the Intercepting Fist”. Not so much a martial art in the traditional sense, it is a combat philosophy that incorporates traits and characteristics from many other fighting styles, including Western boxing and fencing. There are no set solo training forms, and practitioners are encouraged to interpret techniques for themselves and to change them if necessary, giving the student freedom to experiment.
Notable Exclusions: Ninjutsu, Aikido
Bonus : Silat

How to Create World Of Tanks Skins using Open Source-Paint.net
This tutorial is intended for users who independently create skins for World of Tanks is not using paid and complex Adobe Photoshop. In this case we have the support of graphics editor Paint.NET , with a lot of pluses for inexperienced users:
- The program is free for distribution and use;
- optimized for dual-core and quad-core;
- has a user-friendly interface similar to Photoshop;
- allows you to work with multiple documents at once;
- supports working with layers;
- easy to use.
- works with files *. dds (and in this format and create skins for WoT )
Paint.NET to work, your computer must be installed. NET Framework (usually the default). Just install the plugin DropShadow , you'll need it in the process (After downloading the archive, extract it to a folder «Effects» in the installation directory Paint.NET ( usually C: \ Program Files \ Paint.NET \ Effects)) I have to say that it is going to draw a camouflage with his hands and not plug or patterns
IMPORTANT! Before work, prepare the files.
To open the file, which will rule, you must:
- select the drive where the game is, you go in the folder "World_of_Tanks", then the folder "res", then the folder "packages";
- At the bottom are 5 files - "vehicles_american.pkg", "vehicles_chinese.pkg", "vehicles_french.pkg", "vehicles_german.pkg", "vehicles_russian.pkg";
- choose the right (for us it's "vehicles_german.pkg");
- open it with an archiver (WinRar, 7zip ...);
- in the folder "german" folder is located G37_Ferdinand (it is unknown and are dds files), which decided to improve skin and copy the entire folder to World_of_Tanks \ res_mods \ versiya_igry \ vehicles \ german \.
- enter the program Paint.NET, and open dds files from the copied folder.
In this guide will be our guinea pig British Tanks. Churchill_VIII.dds open the file using the File-Open (look for it in World_of_Tanks \ res_mods \ 037.3 \ vehicles \ british \ GB09_Churchill_VIII) do not forget to make a backup copy of this file
2. Make another layer, to do this, click in the window of the "Layers" on the corresponding button:
we've got a new transparent layer
3. Choose a background color for the skin, I took № CEB967 (for hexadecimal):
This color was optional for you to choice
4. Using the "Fill" fill completely "Layer 2" (it should be highlighted) and then in the window of the "Layers" click on the "Properties":
in the opened window set the parameters as shown in the figure (immediately changed the name of the layer to "Layer 2" to "Background camouflage" for convenience):
as a result we get the following result:
Note: The parameters for the different tanks Blending may be different, experiment
5. Looking for skins elements that were not stained by these tanks and using the "Eraser" clobbered these places on the layer "Background camouflage":
This step also optional for you to decoration
and as the result :
And you can add more layer for your design! just redo the step.
After finish that work, don’t forget to save (replace) your work in .dss format!

Sporting Comebacks-Spirit that change the game
Sport is drama in its rawest form. Unlike film or theatre, what happens is completely unplanned, often resulting in heroic acts that spring from real emotions and occasionally tragedy. The following top ten list of sporting comebacks aims to look at teams or individuals that through sheer will power, made the impossible a reality.
In 1972 5,000m and 10,000m Olympic champion, Lasse Viren
In his first Olympics at the age of 23, Lasse Viren went into the 1972 10,000m final little more than a rank outsider. When he and Mohamed Gammoudi fell over halfway through the race, it was Gammoudi the 1968 Olympic Champion, who garnered the attention. Yet while Gammoudi dropped out two laps later, Viren had already caught up with the leading group and went on to win the gold in a world record 27:38:40. His achievement was crowned just ten days later when he added the 5000m title.
In 1976 Viren further proved himself by not only reclaiming both Olympic titles, but finishing fifth in the marathon only 18 hours after his 5000m triumph. Unfortunately his reputation has been tarnished, by accusations of blood doping. His detracters point to the fact that he achieved little of worth outside the Olympic games.
In 1999 Open champion, Paul Lawrie
A few weeks before the 2007 British Open at Carnoustie it looked touch and go whether Paul Lawrie, the 1999 champion would qualify. Eventually he did, but the disrespect shown to him by the organisers was nothing short of disgraceful. No doubt, like every other Open champion, he should have received an invite to the tournament.
At Carnoustie eight years earlier he had started the final round ten shots behind the leader Jean Van de Velde. Okay Van de Velde self destructed, but coming back from that far on the last day was unprecedented in a major championship, and his final round of 67 in a tournament where the winning total was 6 over par was remarkable.
In 2005 Champions League Final; Liverpool Vs AC Milan
Outplayed by a side more talented in every position, the Liverpool side left the pitch at half time trailing AC Milan 3 – 0.
The game could not have started worse for Liverpool. In the first minute veteran Milan defender Paulo Maldino scored from a corner. From there the Brazilian midfielder Kaka took control; releasing Shevchenko down the left to cross for Hernan Crespo for 2- 0, then playing Crespo through on goal for him to make it three.
An injury to Harry Kewell changed the game. Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez had to reshape the midfield, adding defensive midfielder Dieter Hammann. Finally, Liverpool could tame Kaka and the likes of Steven Gerrard could push forward. The change in style so shocked Milan that in a remarkable 6 minutes, immediately after half time, Liverpool had scored three goals.
The match moved into extra time. In the last minute Shevchenko, the best striker in the world, forced Dudek to parry away his header, but the ball rebounded straight back to him and only two yards from goal, he looked certain to score. Somehow, Dudek flung himself across the goal to block the shot.
Seconds later, the whistle blew for full-time and the game moved into a penalty shoot-out. Dudek was again the hero, saving from Pirlo and Shevchenko for Liverpool to complete the unlikeliest of wins in the biggest club tournament in the world.
In 2001 Wimbledon champion, Goran Ivaniševi
“I have so many runner-up cups that I am thinking of starting my own tea shop”. Particularly galling to the Croat was his 3 Wimbledon runner up cups, a tournament that he was fully equipped to win. Ok, the two losses to Pete Sampras were understandable, but in his first final at Wimbledon against Andre Agassi, he had been the runaway favourite.
By the 2001 Wimbledon, Ivaniševi? was on the verge of retirement. Seeded outside the top 100 he needed a wild card to get into the tournament. Yet he defied many of his critics by reaching the semi-final, where he faced home favorite Tim Henman.
Goran took the first set of the match 7 – 5, but normal service resumed when Henman won the second, and then strolled to a 2 – 1 lead with a 6 – 0 win in the third. By this time Henman was playing outstanding tennis, and at the beginning of the fourth set he moved a break up. In fact Henman would of won if it wasn’t for the rain.
When they came back from a lengthy delay, Henman had lost his momentum and Ivaniševi? immediately broke back, winning the fourth set on a tie break. The fifth set was again interrupted by the weather, but Ivaniševi? again proved the stronger player, and won 6-3.
In an exciting Wimbledon final, Ivanisevic beat the number 2 seed Patrick Rafter in five sets to become the first wild card to win a grand slam.
In 2004 800m and 1500m Olympic champion, Kelly Holmes
Only a Brit who follows track and field can really understand the full extent of Kelly Holmes achievement at the 2004 Olympics. For years the she had suffered injuries, and though she came into Athens injury free for the first time, she was 34 and coming off the back of the worst year in her career. After winning both the 1500m and 800m gold, she would admit to being diagnosed with clinical depression, taking to cutting herself when injured in 2003 while at the same time, if she wanted to continue to compete, unable to take medication. When commentator Steve Cram screamed “You’ve won it Kelly. You’ve won it!” it was in reference to Holmes looking around in complete disbelief.
Buffalo Bills Vs the Houston Oilers
This game is known as ‘the comeback’. With the Buffalo Bills 0 – 32 down they converted from a 4 – 3 to a 3 – 4 defence to contain the Oilers offensive passing and claw back the points, equalising with only 3 minutes left.
The game moved into overtime, but with the Oilers looking more likely to score, a stray pass was intercepted by the Buffalo defensive bac,k Nate Odomes. A foul tackle on Odomes took the Buffalos up to the 20 yard line and three plays later they scored the winning field goal.
The Buffalo Bills went on to compete in the Super Bowl.
Henri Cochet
Henri Cochet, one of the four musketeers of French tennis in the the 20’s, was part of one of the greatest tennis comebacks. What made the comeback even more special was that it was achieved in the Wimbledon semi-final.
Playing against the legendary American player Bill Tilden, Cochet was quickly 2 sets to 0 down and trailing 5 – 1 in the third. Suddenly deciding to go for broke, he came up with winner after winner to win 6 games in a row and then take the final two sets 6 – 4, 6 – 3.
This is not the whole story. Cochet had also comeback from two sets down in the quarter finals and did so again to win the title. But it is the victory against Tilden that will be remembered. Tilden was no. 1 in the world, and up to that point recognised as the best player the game had ever seen.
Manchester United and the Munich aircrash of 1958
On February the 6th 1958, an aircraft carrying a Manchester United side searching for three English league titles in a row, crashed on take off killing 8 players. Among the dead were Duncan Edwards (tipped to be the next England captain, and even at 21 already one of the best players in the world), the prolific scorer both for United and England, Tommy Taylor, and the experienced England full back Roger Bryne. In fact 7 of the dead were first team players, and all of them had plenty of playing years ahead of them. Two other first team players sustained injuries, including the Northern Ireland international Jackie Blanchflower that forced them out of football. The Manchester United manager Matt Busby fell into a coma.
Yet only a few months later Manchester United were in the FA cup final. Bolton Wanderers defeated them 3 – 1, but the spirit that United showed was to be vital for the building process that occurred over the coming years.
Remarkably, Matt Busby was out of his coma and back managing the side in time for the start of the 1959 season, and in the next few years he went onto construct one of the best sides teams to compete in English football. In the sixties the ‘Busby Babes’ including Bobby Charlton, George Best, and Denis Law won the FA Cup and the league title twice. Ten years after the air crash in 1968, they won the European Cup.
7 times Tour de France winner, Lance Armstrong
Forget the drug allegations, American cyclist Lance Armstrong came back from testicular cancer that spread to his brain, lungs, and abdomen, to win 7 consecutive Tours de France – one of the most gruelling events in world sport. Enough said.
In 1977 Formula One world champion, Nikki Lauda
Maybe the bravest comebacks of all. Heading for his second world championship, a rear suspension failure forced Lauda off the track. His Ferrari hit an embankment, rolled back, and collided with Brett Lunger’s Surtee’s Ford. Lauda’s car shot up in flames with Lauda trapped inside. Despite the efforts of the officials and his fellow drivers he could not be removed from the wreckage until he’d already suffered severe burns, and had inhaled huge amounts of toxic gas. Amazingly when they did get him out, he was able to walk away but he later collapsed into a coma.
Less than two months later Lauda was back racing. In his first race he managed a credible fourth, but had too much ground to make up in the world championship, and he lost it by one point. The following year he won the championship for the second time.

Top 10 Influential Arcade Games
During the late 1970s video games became sophisticated enough to offer good-quality sound and graphics, though they were still very basic. As a result, companies had to rely on simple and fun gameplay in their arcade games to become popular. This emphasis on the gameplay is why many arcade games continue to be enjoyed today despite their technology being vastly outdated by modern computing technology. I included links for entries where I could find them, so you can play some of the games for yourself.
10.Asteroids
Asteroids was released in 1979 by Atari. It was immensely successful and soon became one of the most played games of the 1980s. The game was so popular that video arcade operators sometimes had to install larger boxes to hold the number of coins that were spent by players. Due to Asteroid’s success, a sequel was introduced by Atari, in 1980, named Asteroids Deluxe.
In the game itself, the player controls a triangular space ship flying in an asteroid field, the objective being to avoid contact with asteroids whilst also destroying them to gain points. Occasionally, alien space ships will traverse the player, usually posing more of a threat than a regular asteroid. These can be destroyed for bonus points. [Play Here]
9.Pheonix
Pheonix was developed by Armstar Electronics and released by Centuri, in 1980. Upon release Pheonix became well-renowned because of it’s full color graphics, a seemingly new feature at the time. The most notable aspect of Pheonix is that it has one of the earliest examples of a “boss” battle, within a video game. During the boss battle, the player fights the “mothership”, which is visible in the image above.
Like many other arcade games of the era, Pheonix features an outer-space theme. The player controls a space ship that may move horizontally, but not vertically. The objective is to destroy enemy space ships that appear similar to birds, whilst avoiding opposing fire. After facing numerous waves of enemies the player is confronted by the “mothership”, which is difficult to destroy but yields significantly more points. [Play Here]
8.Galaga
Galaga was created and published by Namco, in 1981. It proved to be extremely successful; five sequels were developed by Namco in the following years. The latest sequel is “Galaga Legions”, released to the Xbox Live Arcade, in 2011.
In the typical game of Galaga, the player must destroy insect-like aliens to earn points, whilst avoiding fire and contact with enemies. The aliens swarm in formation whilst firing and may fly towards the player if not destroyed fast enough. Different colored aliens represent the enemy rank. Green aliens are typically the most deadly, with blue being the least dangerous. [Play Here]
7.Q*Bert
Q*Bert is a platform game ,published in 1982, by Gottlieb. It was well received in arcades and by critics, who praised the graphics, unique gameplay and main character. The success resulted in sequels and use of the character’s likeness in merchandising, such as appearances on lunch boxes, toys and an animated television show.
The object of the game is to light up all horizontal squares on a pyramid, by having the protagonist jump onto each one individually. The player can only jump diagonally, and must also avoid obstacles such as red balls that fall onto the pyramid from a height. Jumping off the pyramid also results in the player losing a life. Upon death the main character emits a sound likened to swearing. [Play Here]
6.Frogger
Frogger was first introduced to arcades in 1981. It was developed by Konami and licensed by Sega. The game was originally going to be named: “Highway Crossing Frog”, but developers didn’t feel this captured the true nature of the game, so it was changed to simply Frogger. Because of it’s worldwide popularity, Frogger has ensured it’s immortality in popular culture; appearing in animated television shows and even song lyrics.
The object of the game is to direct frogs to their homes one by one. To do this, each frog must avoid cars while crossing a busy road and navigate a river without falling in water. Skillful players may obtain some bonuses along the way. Once a player successful returns five frogs to their homes, they will advance to the next stage. [Play Here]
5.Mario Bros.
Nintendo released Mario Bros. worldwide, in 1983. Surprisingly, the game was only modestly successful in Japan and wasn’t well-received by critics. However, Mario Bros set the foundation for Nintendo’s future successful video games. The character of Luigi was introduced for the first time, as well as several recurring enemies in the Mario franchise. Mario was also portrayed as a plumber for the first time, with the game taking place within a network of giant pipes.
The player controls either Mario or Luigi, as they investigate the sewers of New York after strange creatures have been appearing down there. The objective of the game is to defeat all of the enemies in each phase. The mechanics of Mario Bros. involve only running and jumping. The player must jump on top of an enemy to flip it, and then finish off the adversary by running into it and performing an automatic kick.
4.Space Invaders
Space Invaders was manufactured and sold by Taito in Japan, in 1978. The game is considered a forerunner in modern video gaming, and it helped to define the popular space shooter theme of arcade games. Following its release, the game caused a temporary shortage of 100-yen coins in Japan and grossed over $500million for Taito in its first three years. The pixelated enemy alien is commonly used as a symbol of video gaming as a whole.
The player controls a turret by moving it horizontally across the bottom of the screen and firing at descending aliens. The aim is to defeat five rows of eleven aliens that move horizontally back and forth across the screen as they advance towards the bottom of the screen. The player defeats an alien, and earns points by shooting it with the turret. As more aliens are defeated, the aliens’ movement and the game’s music both speed up. Defeating the aliens brings another wave that is more difficult, a loop which can continue indefinitely. [Play Here]
3.Donkey Kong
Donkey Kong was released by Nintendo, in 1981. After being initially unsuccessful in Japan, the game took North America by storm and became one of the most influential video games ever. Donkey Kong was allegedly the first game ever to utilize “cut-scenes” to advance a game’s narrative. Ultimately, the success of Donkey Kong helped position Nintendo to dominate the video game market in the 1980s and early 1990s.
The player controls the character; “jump-man”, and attempts to rescue a young woman from the clutches of a barbaric ape. Jump-man must battle through multiple stages consisting of girders and ladders, whilst avoiding barrels and other hazards. When the player reaches the top of the screen and makes contact with the captured female, the game advances to the next stage. After three stages the player must defeat Donkey Kong to rescue the woman. [Play Here]
2.Pac-Man
Pac-man was originally created by Namco and first released in Japan, in 1980. It has remained extremely popular from it’s release to the present day, and has become virtually synonymous with video games in general. Pac Man is also an icon in 1980’s popular culture; the likeness of the main character is often shown on lunch boxes and in animated television. At a time when most arcade games where space shooters, Pac-man created a whole new genre of video game. Pac-man is also the highest grossing video game of all time.
The object of the game is to consume every single “pac-dot” visible in a maze. When every dot has been consumed by the protagonist, the game proceeds to the next stage. The player is constantly being chased by four enemies resembling ghosts. If the player makes contact with a ghost, a life is lost. When the player consumes a larger pac-dot, the ghosts turn blue and slow down their movements for a short while. During this period it is possible for Pac-man to eat the ghosts for bonus points. 1.Pong
Pong is a tennis sports game and one of the earliest examples of an arcade video game. It is certainly the first ever arcade game to achieve mainstream popularity. It was manufactured by Atari, who released it in 1972. After noticing Pong’s commercial success, several companies began to produce their own games, which mimicked the style and gameplay of Pong. The competition to create a more enjoyable game led to the birth of the video game industry. If it wasn’t for Pong, great games like Space Invaders and Pac-man wouldn’t exist at all.
The game itself is remarkably simple. The player controls an in-game paddle by moving it vertically across the left side of the screen, and can compete against either a computer controlled opponent or another player controlling a second paddle on the opposing side. Players use the paddles to hit a ball back and forth. The aim is for a player to earn more points than the opponent; points are earned when one fails to return the ball to the other side of the court. [Play Here]
